“Münster‘s little lake within the heart of the city, the Aasee, is one of my favourite places and attracts walkers and cyclists the same. Apart from enjoying the water view, you can't miss the modern art. There are many sculptures around the lake that were created by internationally renowned artists especially for the four major sculpture exhibitions from 1977 to 2007. The "Giant Pool Balls" immediately catch the eye. Today they have become a landmark of Münster but not all residents liked them right from the start. Back in 1977, some people even tried to roll them into the lake! In good weather, the meadows along the lake are the place to meet for the students to enjoy the sun. You can even explore the lake from the water on a pedal boat or with the SOLAARIS solar-powered boat, and then linger afterwards in one of the lovely cafés or restaurants. If you want to enjoy a short break in the countryside after attending the congress and still be right in the middle of it all, the Aasee is the place for you!“
